If proceeding down Academic row from the Administration Drive Garage the University Center is most easily identifiable by its large ground floor windows, atms on its front and, pyramidal type steps on the right of its entrance. The 1^st Annual Workshop on “Frontiers of Multicore Computing” will be held August 27/28, 2008. The workshop will explore oppurtunities and challenges presented with the advent of multicore computer architechtures, and will address a range of comper systems and application's performance issues, focusing on problems related to Aerospace, Geophysics, Defense, Bio-Chemical Informatics, Social Media and Real-time Streaming and Interactive Data Driven Systems as well as advanced software systems to implement the applications.

The FMC Workshop Objectives

As the number of processors on a single dye is expected to increase from single digits to triple digits over the next decade,scaling the performance of applications so that it grows linearly (or nearly so) with the number of cores is the defining challenge in the multicore arena. The workshop will address how these multicore-based systems fit in the context of more heterogeneous systems such as grids, spanning from high-end platforms to moderate size clusters, mobile devices, pdas and advanced capabilities like accelerators, GPUs and FPGAs in the future evolution of such environments. The FMC workshop will draw on the emerging expertise available in the community of early multicore adopters to invite speakers and panel discussants describing their experiences in adopting their diverse applications to the various new multicore architectures.

Invited speakers or those candidates with multicore application results wishing to speak at the FMC workshop are requested to submit extended abstracts (see format instructions below) by July 31^st, 2008. While the scope of papers of interest is not restrictive, the workshop places particular emphasis on papers for multicore applications in the following topics:

This workshop is not limited to only those with multicore expertise but also to those interested in becoming more familiar with multicore systems and their applications. To address the needs of the latter group of attendees the workshop will host exhibits by various multicore vendors and will include application content. In addition, tutorials and instructional lectures will be offered on multicore programming during the workshop.

There will be no charge for registration for the FMC workshop regardless of registration time. Participants are kindly requested to register online by August 15^th, 2008. Students are strongly encouraged to come.
