Biography :Dr. Milton Halem is a research professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at UMBC, and also Chief Information Research Scientist of Earth Sciences at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He recieved his bachlor's degree in mathematics from City College in New York, and his PhD in 1968 from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. In 1977 he began working at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, for which he initially worked as manager of the Global Modeling and Simulation Branch of the Global Atmospheric Research Program, and played an important role in introducing supercomputers to Goddard. He stayed at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and eventually became the Chief Information Officer and the Assistant Director of Information Sciences for the entire space flight center. He retired in 2002. However, in 2004 he began work again and now holds his current positions at UMBC and concurrently at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Dr. Halem has accumulated many awards for his great work, including the NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement, the NASA Medal for Outstanding Leadership, and, in 1996, the NASA Distinguished Service Medal; NASA's highest honor. |
